Area Scene: Mines' basketball team camp set for July 12-13

RAPID CITY — The South Dakota School of Mines Boy’s Basketball 2008 Team Camp will be July 12-13 at the King Center.

The camp will consist of three divisions which include Group A for seventh and eighth grade boys, Group B for small schools and Group C for big schools. T-shirts will be awarded to the division champions.

The cost for the camp is $325 per team plus $125 for a one night stay in the dorms per team.

There will be a $35 fee for each additional player for teams having over eight players.

The registration fee must be returned by July 5 and can be mailed to Jason Henry at South Dakota School of Mines, 501 East St. Joseph Street, Rapid City SD 57701. For more information, call 716-4144 or 355-3023.


R.C. Stevens to host two football camps next week

RAPID CITY — Rapid City Stevens will be hosting several football camps in July and August.

The Raider Quarterback Camp, featuring Chadron State College quarterback coach Chris Stein, will be July 7-8 for grades 5-8 and grades 9-12. This camp is for anyone interested in learning how to play the quarterback position.

The Raider Freshman Football Camp, for any upcoming freshman who is planning on playing football this Fall for Stevens, will be July 9-10.

Any boy in grades 9-12 who is planning on playing football this Fall for Stevens may attend the Raider Team Camp on July 14-17.

The Future Raider Football Camp for anyone playing football in grades 3-8 will be Aug. 18-20.

Deadline nears for Women’s Senior/Mid-Amateur event

RAPID CITY — The deadline to enter the SDGA Women’s Senior/Mid-Amateur Championship is Tuesday, July 8.

This year’s Championship will be held July 19-20 at Hart Ranch Golf Course in Rapid City. Entry fee is $100 and applications are available on line at www.sdga.org.

South Dakota Mines plans volleyball camps

RAPID CITY — The South Dakota School of Mines Volleyball team will host a skills camp July 8-11 and a setter/hitter camp July 14-17.

For students in grades K-6, the skills camp will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m for girls in grades 7-12. Cost for the skills camp is $60.

The setter/hitter camp for freshman and junior varsity players will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on July 14 and 15.

The varsity setter/hitter camp will be July 16-17 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Costs for each camp is $50.

All camps will take place at the King Center on the campus of South Dakota School of Mines.

Huether pitches eight innings in Trojans’ win

RAPID CITY — The Trojans defeated the Drillers 6-3 in Black Hills Amateur League action Tuesday night.

Miles Huether got the win pitching eight innings and giving up six hits. He also had two hits on the night.

Nate Watson went 2-for-4 with a RBI and Derik Warne had two hits and drove in two.

Joe Buehler had three hits for the Drillers.
