A tip of the hat goes to all those involved in helping bringing an the U.S. National Olympic Softball team to Rapid City.
A dream opportunity will come to fruition tonight when the Black Hills Gold, a select team of South Dakota all stars, faces Team USA in a softball exhibition game at Pete Lien Field.

Team USA is on its Bound 4 Beijing Tour, which began in February and will end later this month. The grass-roots tour is a way to reconnect with fans and create new ones. Thousands of girls idolize the U.S. players, who have won all three Olympic gold medals since softball was added to the Games in 1996.
Win or lose, the girls from South Dakota will get the opportunity of a lifetime. And Team USA will take with them memories of Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore and other beautiful parts of the Black Hills.
Rapid City — thanks to the hard work of many business sponsors and individuals, including Rick DenHerder, ASA commissioner, organizer of the Rapid City Bound 4 Beijing tour stop and coach of Black Hills Gold — will once again get to see Olympic athletes competing right here at home.
Years ago, the city hosted the Russian wrestling team when they took on Rapid City’s very own Randy Lewis. Tefilo Stevenson was the headliner when he led his Cuban boxing team into Rapid City to face Team USA.
Always known as a baseball town, it will be softball that takes center stage tonight in the middle of summer. Despite the two sports’ rivalries, it's nice to see Post 320 step up to the plate and let the girls take the field.
Rapid City has always supported its own, like Becky, Adam, Eric, Mark, and now hundreds of girls playing ASA softball can watch up close what it takes to be an Olympic-caliber athlete. Who knows, this area just might have our very own Jennie Finch in our midst.
With a pro hockey team about to take to the ice, this should be another great way to show that Rapid City deserves opportunities like this.
