DEADWOOD — With the temperatures soaring during Saturday afternoon’s performance at the Days of ’76 Rodeo, only Quinn’s J.J. Elshere could knock a leader off the top rung of the leaderboard as the other six leaders managed to hang onto their respective leads.

Quinn, currently third in the saddle bronc world standings, posted a terrific 90 score to move past a pair of local saddle bronc riders in Chet Johnson, of Gillette, and Chad Ferley, of Oelrichs.

Chris Harris, of Itasca, Texas, who edged past John Addison on Friday, still leads the bareback competition with an 86. Addison sits in second place with an 85.

Nick Price, of Russellville, Ark., stayed in first place in the bull riding with his 88 mark that he earned on Friday. Josh K. Johnson moved into second and the money on Saturday with a ride of 84.

Barrel racer Lindsay Sears, the event money leader, nearly knocked off Lisa Lockhart, but Sears had to settle for second as the cowgirl from Oelrichs still leads with a time of 16.74. Sears managed a 16.75 on her run.

Doug Pharr, of Victoria, Texas, leads the tie-down roping event with a mark of 8.6 seconds, while Cimarron Boardman has the average lead (18.5) with one performance left.

Arizona’s Derrick Begay and Victor Aros remained alone in the team roping as no one so far has bettered their 4.3 second effort.

Cash Myers from Athens, Texas is the only leader in the go-round and the average. His 3.5 second mark puts him first in the steer wrestling and his 7.7 mark on two is one-tenth of a second ahead of Hunter Cure.

Action at the 86th annual Days of ’76 Rodeo will conclude today with a 1 p.m. performance at the Fairgrounds.
