Post 22 pounds Pierre

PIERRE — Post 22 starting pitcher Kolton Emery threw a four-hitter and the Post 22 offense pounded out 16 hits, topping Pierre Post 8, 13-3, in a seven-inning game shortened by the 10-run rule.

Emery was dominant on the mound, throwing less than 100 pitches, jumping ahead in the count and moving the ball around in the zone. At one point he retired 13 straight Pierre batters. He had a one-hitter going into the last inning.

“Kolton really had good command today he moved the ball around well,” said Post 22 head coach Dave Ploof. “And offensively we hit the ball hard and hit it often. We got the first game tomorrow and were going to have to come out and play it well. ”

Post 22 took a 4-0 lead in the game after back-to-back home runs by Brock Estes and Jarrett Jensen. With two outs in the inning, Dana Hill singled and Estes followed with a two-run blast over the center-field wall. On the very next pitch, Jensen stroked a solo shot.

The hard hats exploded for another five runs in the fifth inning after Jake Bohne and Parker Sullivan both had RBI singles, Jordan Mette and Hill doubled in runs and Sam Wolff hit a sacrifice fly.

Five Post 22 hitters had two hits in the game and Parker Sullivan led the way going 3-for-4.

The game was over when …

In the sixth, when Post 22 added four more runs, just enough to give them the 10-run advantage. Jensen started the inning with a triple off the right-field wall. Steven Ficken and Jake Bohne both followed with RBI base hits.

Wednesday’s MVP …

Kolton Emery earned the win throwing a complete game, fanning five, and recording 14 ground ball outs.

On Deck …

Post 22 advances in the championship bracket game and will face Spearfish at noon on Thursday. The winner advances to the championship game.

Pierre drops into the loser’s bracket and will play Post 320 today at 3 p.m.
