BELLE FOURCHE -- Former Lead-Deadwood schools technology director Wade Mackey is being held in Meade County Jail after he was indicted on charges of stalking a woman in Belle Fourche.
Mackey pled not guilty at his arraignment Thursday in 4th Circuit Court in Belle Fourche. Investigators believe he followed and harassed a woman on Aug. 31.
The Lead-Deadwood School Board terminated Mackey's contract Tuesday after an executive session. Board members and staff wouldn't say why they terminated him.
Board member Greg King said only: "He wasn't able to perform his contractual duties. He was terminated with just cause."
In addition to serving as head of the district's technology department, Mackey coached Lead-Deadwood Middle School football and Lead-Deadwood High School Baseball and has been the American Legion Lead-Deadwood Homestake Post 31 Baseball coach.
He had been employed by the Lead-Deadwood School District for 11 years.
Superintendent Dan Leikvold said it has not been decided how the district will handle Mackey's absence.
"We will discuss how we wish to proceed in the coming days," he said. "We may fill that position, or we may reconfigure how we staff the technology department."
