Western Neb. man pleads no contest to beating wife with baseball bat

GERING, Neb. -- A 38-year-old Gering man arrested last spring on suspicion of beating his wife with a baseball bat has pleaded no contest to one charge in a plea deal.

Shaun Morris entered the plea last week to second degree domestic assault. In exchange, two other felony charges were dismissed.

Morris is set to be sentenced on Nov. 7.

Morris' wife told police that she and her husband had argued in April when she came home over the noon hour. The woman says Morris pushed her around the home and then struck her on the arm, leg and in the ribs with the bat.

An arrest affidavit says the woman escaped the home, but not before Morris threatened to "bash her brains in" when she returned from work.
