VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Douglas continues to roll in the BHC

Douglas stayed perfect in the Black Hills Conference with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-14 volleyball win over Douglas at Whitehead Auditorium on Tuesday night.
The Patriots (14-7 overall and 11-0 BHC) and fresh off a five-set win over St. Thomas More on Monday night, were led by Maranda Baragar’s five kills and Chelsea Edwards six service aces.
“We were a little slow out on the floor,” said Douglas head coach Jeff Nugent. “We didn’t play with a lot of energy maybe we were a little tired.”
Baragar also led the team with nine digs. Jordan McCausland dished out 21 assists.
Douglas will travel to Newell on Thursday while Custer (10-17, 3-8) hosts Belle Fourche on Friday in BHC matches.
HOT SPRINGS 3, HILL CITY 0: Hot Springs swept Hill City 27-25, 25-10, 25-17 in Black Hills Conference volleyball action Tuesday night.
Mackenzie Anderson was 16-of-16 serving with four aces for the Bison while teammate Carlie Weiss finished with five aces on 15-of-17 serving and had six kills.
“My girls always come out slow and Hill City was covering the floor in the first game,” said Hot Springs head coach Stacie Collins. “I think we had really good serving in the other two games and that made a difference for us.”
Mariah Asheim had five aces, 10 digs and seven assists to lead the Rangers.
Hot Springs (15-5 overall, 8-1 BHC) hosts Lead-Deadwood and Hill City (4-15, 0-9) travels to St. Thomas More on Thursday.
PINE RIDGE 3, LITTLE WOUND 0: Pine Ridge defeated Little Wound 25-19, 25-14, 25-17 in volleyball action at Pine Ridge on Tuesday night.
The Lady Thorpes are now 16-8 on the season and will travel to play Crow Creek on Friday while Little Wound 7-12 entertains Kadoka Area in Kyle on Saturday.
GETTYSBURG 3, CHEYENNE-EAGLE BUTTE 0: Andrea Tanner had 16 kills and two solo blocks to lead Gettysburg to a 25-10, 25-21, 25-11 victory over Cheyenne-Eagle Butte in prep volleyball action on Tuesday.
The Battlers’ Calley Worth was 12-of-14 serving with six aces and had 12 digs in the win.
Tiara Maxon had four aces and two kills to pace the Braves.
Gettysburg (19-3 overall) hosts Northwestern and Cheyenne-Eagle Butte (11-11) plays at home against Faith on Thursday.
RAPID CITY CENTRAL 3, STURGIS 0: Rapid City Central picked up a Greater Dakota Conference volleyball win over Sturgis as the Cobblers prevailed, 25-14, 25-23, 25-15, on the Scoopers home floor in volleyball action on Tuesday.
“We tried some new things offensively,” said Cobbler head coach Shelly Wolfe.
“We went with some shorter sets and tried some fakes to keep everybody involved. We’ve been having too many players standing around and we wanted to keep everybody moving on the court.”
Kenzie Slater had three solo blocks as Central set the tone at the net against the Scoopers.
“Our blocking was huge,” said Wolfe. “Everybody did their jobs. it was one of the first times all year that’s happened.”
Andrea Johnson had nine kills with Caitlin Templeton adding seven kills and three aces for the Cobblers.
Courtney Carmichael had 18 set assists with Carrie Zastrow adding 13 for the winners.
Central (12-13 overall) will look to build on their success as they take to the road playing a pair of Eastern South Dakota Conference teams Mitchell on Friday and Huron on Saturday.
Sturgis (6-14) will take on the Spartans in Spearfish on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
