PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Hot Springs rolls past Hill City

The Hot Springs Bison advanced to the district championship game after a 25-12, 25-15, 25-16 victory over Hill City in District 15A prep volleyball action Tuesday night.
“I thought we played pretty well but let up our intensity at the end of each game,” said Hot Springs head coach Staci Collins. “We are definitely going to work on intensity in practice.”
Carlie Weiss was 10-of-11 serving with three aces and had 11 kills to lead the Bison attack. Sarah Gieser finished with one solo block and four block-assists for Hot Springs.
Hot Springs (20-9 overall) hosts Custer Thursday night at 6 p.m. in the district title game.
CUSTER 3, RED CLOUD 1: Melissa Flores had 12 kills on 16-of-20 hitting and one solo block to lead Custer to a 25-21, 25-8, 23-25, 25-19 win over Red Cloud in first round playoff action Tuesday night.
“We didn’t play well at all tonight,” said Custer head coach Renae Schneider. “We didn’t communicate and move our feet, and we missed way too many serves.”
The Wildcats’ Taava Cooper also finished with three aces on 11-of-12 serving, six kills and one solo block
Custer (13-19 overall) travels to Hot Springs Thursday night.
District 14A
Pine Ridge 3, Little Wound 0; Bennett County 3, St. Francis Indian 0; Bennett County 3, Pine Ridge 0: Bennett County emerged as the District 14A champion by picking up a pair of wins on Tuesday in Pine Ridge.
The Warriors defeated St. Francis Indian, 25-15, 25-15, 25-14, before knocking off No. 1 seed Pine Ridge, 25-12, 25-18, 25-16, 25-10, 15-10, to claim the title.
Pine Ridge advanced to the championship match with a 25-12, 25-18, 25-20 triumph over Little Wound.
Bennett County (20-11 overall) will advance to regional play next week.
Little Wound winds up 10-14 while St. Francis finishes 10-12 and Pine Ridge closes out the 2008 campaign with a
21-12 mark.
District 13A
Winner 3, Todd County 0 : Winner downed Todd County, 25-13, 25-17, 25-21, in a District 12A volleyball game in Winner.
The Warriors’ Alix Driscoll led the way with seven kills and 10 digs, while Kelli Norrid added five kills and 15 digs.
Shelby Unger had nine kills and four digs and Christine Crow Eagle contributed eight digs and three aces for the Falcons.
Todd County closed out its season with a 17-15 mark overall.
Winner (17-10 overall), will play the winner of Platte-Geddes and Gregory match in the 13A championship game in Winner on Thursday.
District 11A
Chamberlain 3, Lyman 0; Miller 3, Crow Creek 0: Chamberlain and Miller both advanced to the championship game of the District 11A volleyball tournament with first round wins on Tuesday night in Miller.
The Cubs downed Lyman, 25-20,
25-10, 25-21, while the Rustlers handled Crow Creek, 25-6, 25-7, 25-12.
Chamberlain was led by Crispin Matthews, who tallied 12 kills and eight blocks.
Kelli Swenson and Kelsey Grassrope each added five aces in the win.
Ali Linderman recorded seven kills with Jordi Terca adding 12 assists and 11 digs for the Raiders.
Top-seeded Miller is now 23-5 on the year, while Chamberlain improved to 9-17 with the win.
The title game is set for Thursday night in Miller at 8 p.m.
District 16B
Bison 3, Takini 2; Faith 3, Dupree 0: Bison needed all five games to get past Takini, 23-25, 25-20, 24-26, 25-19, 15-10, in an opening-round game in the District 16B tournament in Dupree. The Cardinals will now take on top-seeded Harding County in a semifinal game on Thursday.
Alex Kling had nine assists and four aces with Lindsey Serr leading the attack with seven kills for the Bison.
Bison is now 7-20, while Takini closes out the season with a 7-15 record.
In the other opening round matchup, Faith knocked off Dupree, 25-18, 25-13, 25-18, setting up a semifinal showdown with Faith vs. second-seeded Lemmon on Thursday. The two winners will then play in the 16B title game on Friday at 7 p.m.
District 14B
R.C. Christian 3, Oelrichs 0; Wall 3, New Underwood 1; Edgemont 3, R.C. Christian 0: Action got under way on Tuesday night in District 14B tournament as Edgemont and Wall emerged victorious.
In the first match of the night, Rapid City Christian defeated Oelrichs, 25-17, 25-13, 25-22, and Wall (15-14 overall) upended New Underwood, 25-20, 25-13, 21-25,
25-23.
The Wall trio of Katrina Kjerstad, Loni Humphrey and Madison McLaughlin combined for 36-of-41 Eagle kills in the match. Tiana Kjerstad was a catalyst as she dished out 25 assists in the Wall win.
Teri Heavlin led the Tigers with five digs and four digs with Laura Berber contributing three aces and five digs.
Top-seeded Edgemont (24-7) then downed the Comets, 25-11, 25-17, 25-20, to set up an Edgemont versus Wall 14A title game on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Edgemont.
Chyla Koller led the Moguls with seven kills and five digs while Jayme Manke added six assists and five digs.
Christian was led by Valerie Grumann’s eight kills and two blocks. Nikki Bluementhal had 17 assists in the three games for the Comets.
Oelrichs closed out its year with a 3-13 mark. New Underwood finishes 17-14 and Christian closes out its season at 6-22.
District 13B
KADOKA AREA 3, CRAZY HORSE 0; PHILIP 3, JONES COUNTY 0; WHITE RIVER 3, KADOKA AREA 0: White River and Philip will meet in the district championship game after recording wins Tuesday in first-round volleyball action in Murdo.
In the first match of the day, Kadoka Area advanced to the district semifinals with a 25-9, 25-15, 25-10 victory over Crazy Horse.
Tracy Enders led the Kougars attack with nine aces while teammate Emmylu Antonsen finished with 10 assists.
Marissa Mann was 21-of-22 serving with one ace and Taylor Holman had 34 assists as Philip blanked Jones County, 25-13, 25-13, 25-11, in the second match.
“Philip came out ready to play and had some really good hitters,” said Jones County head coach Jill Rankin. “We probably didn’t play as well as we could have.”
Top-seeded White River picked up a 25-18, 25-10, 32-30 win over Kadoka Area to move on to the next round.
Chelsey Luvzik had 25 assists and one ace for the Tigers.
White River and Philip will play at 6 p.m. Thursday night in Murdo for the District 13B crown.
