Richardson to receive honor

Sturgis head football coach Rod Richardson has been selected as the Region 4 coach of the year.

Richardson helped lead Sturgis to a 6-5 season including a home game during the first round of the playoffs in which the team defeated Aberdeen Central. Richardson has coached for 16 years with stops in Wabaunsee, Kan., Papillion, Neb., and he just completed his first year with the Scoopers.

Richardson will receive his award during halftime of the Class 11A championship football game at the DakotaDome in Vermillion on Friday.

Each of the honored coaches will receive an engraved plaque from the South Dakota Football Coaches Association.
