Sealing the concrete under ice arena seats to protect against the sticky power of spilled sodas will add to the cost of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center's multipurpose addition. But the additional work will not delay finishing projects before the Nov. 29 Rapid City Rush first home hockey game.
"We're still on course, on time and on budget," civic center general manager Brian Maliske said Wednesday.
Maliske expects things to continue to be hectic over the next 16 days.
The city's public works committee on Wednesday approved a $33,700 change order for the $24 million facility.
The largest portion of the change order is to apply a sealant to the concrete under the seats to prevent corrosion or stains from spilled food and drinks. After approval, the project will have $15,800 left in its contingency budget.
"There's no problems. We're still on schedule," Maliske said. "We've been in there probably half a dozen times today looking at different stuff. Everything from lockers to looking at the dasher glass and telescopic seats -- and so far, so good."
