BHSU deals Rocky Mountain first loss

Black Hills State avenged its only loss of the season with a 64-59 win over Rocky Mountain College on Tuesday night in Billings, Mont., at the Fortin Center.

The Battlin’ Bears (5-1 overall) defeated the Yellow Jackets 88-76 at Black Hills on Friday night in Spearfish.

Black Hills was led by Will John Johnson’s 19-point, 15-rebound effort. Cain Atkinson added 15 and Clay Pottorff netted 12 in the Jackets win. 

BHSU led 33-30 after the first 20 minutes and outscored the hosts 31-29 in the final stanza to improve to 4-1 on the year. 

The Yellow Jackets iced the game at the free throw line where they were a solid 20-of-23.

Black Hills held a 33-27 rebounding advantage.

Chase Sukut, Rocky’s leading scoring, was held to 13 points, six below his average of 19 points per game while their second leading scorer, Nate Richardson was also six below his average of 15 points with nine.

Devin Uskoski scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Bears.

Black Hills will now be off until Friday, Nov. 28 when it plays in the South Dakota Mines Classic in Rapid City at 5 p.m. MST.

The Yellow Jackets will take on Peru State on Friday and then Haskell College on Saturday.
