The Rev. Tom Campbell will host a lecture on the history of area churches and religious communities at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Adams Museum, 54 Sherman Street, Deadwood.
Religious organizations played a crucial role in transitioning Deadwood from a raucous mining camp into a stable community, and Campbell will explore the role that founding churches played in Deadwood, as well as the relationship between W.E. Adams, the Adams family and the Episcopal Church.
Campbell is an adjunct professor at Black Hills State University, as well as the priest at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Deadwood.
Coffee and pie will be served after the program for $1 per slice.
The event is open to the public with admission by donation, and all proceeds benefit St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Deadwood. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
Preservation Thursday is co-sponsored by the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission, First Western Bank, Coburn First Western Insurance, Rapid City Journal, Black Hills Pioneer, Deadwood Gulch Resort & Gaming and Cadillac Jack's Gaming Resort.
