SIOUX FALLS - Favorable growing conditions continue to point
toward a 91 percent jump in the state's winter wheat production
this year.
An increase in acreage and in yields will produce a crop of
around 79 million bushels, the Agricultural Statistics Service
said.
The agency expects 1.8 million acres of winter wheat to be
harvested, equaling the record high acreage of 1986.
Ninety-five percent of the crop was rated in fair to excellent
condition this week.
