Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., and Gov. Mike Rounds will speak at the 93rd annual convention of the South Dakota Farmers Union in Huron on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16.
Johnson will receive the Meritorious Service to Farmers Union and American Agriculture award at the Night on the Prairie fundraiser on Saturday evening, Feb. 16.
Rounds will speak at 4 p.m. Friday in conjunction with the SDFU policy discussion.
The convention will be held at the Crossroads Hotel and Convention Center.
In addition to Rounds, convention headliners on Friday include National Farmers Union President Tom Buis and NFU Vice President of Government Relations Katy Ziegler.
Buis will be the headline speaker at the Friday evening program. Ziegler will deliver a farm bill update at 2:15 p.m. Friday. The Saturday morning program will feature a variety of workshop sessions on the future of agriculture in South Dakota.
Kevin Kephart, vice president for research and dean of the graduate school at South Dakota State University, will discuss "New Horizons for South Dakota Agriculture."
South Dakota Public Utilities Commissioner Gary Hanson and Brad Crabtree of the Great Plains Institute will present the "Road Map for Energy," which will be moderated by former state legislator Paul Symens.
The Saturday program will conclude with a panel discussion on the future of agriculture in South Dakota.
Confirmed participants include South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture Bill Even; Lisa Richardson, executive director of the South Dakota Corn Growers Association; Scott VanderWal, president of the South Dakota Farm Bureau; Kevin Scott, first vice president of the Soybean Council; Scott Jones, president of the South Dakota Cattlemen's Association; and Steve Dick, executive director of AG United.
Entertainment includes humorist and columnist Jim Woster Friday morning; ventriloquist Greg Claassen on Friday evening; and Tryg Trooien and his history of the bib overall, with live music by Used Cotton, on Saturday afternoon.
