Ranchers welcome at Range Beef Cow Symposium

Cattle ranchers will be offered the most recent management information and industry updates at the upcoming Range Beef Cow Symposium, set for Dec. 11-13 in Fort Collins, Colo.

Preregistration ends Nov. 21. Late registration fees increase, but registration will also be available at the door.

The event is open to anyone involved in the beef industry. Topics include industry issues; consumers, products and markets; cow-calf nutrition; management practices; reproductive management; animal health; cattle selection and genetics; range and forage management; and markets and marketing.

Speakers at this year's symposium include Andy Gottschalk, senior vice president from R.J. O'Brien and Associates, who will speak on the impact of the U.S. corn/ethanol policy on the U.S. cattle industry.

Terry Klopfenstein of the University of Nebraska will use the past 40 years of research to help cow-calf producers put together a production system that is best for their circumstances.

Doc and Connie Hatfield of Country Natural Beef will discuss the beef marketing program they have developed.

Other speakers will present information related to cow-calf production and marketing.

The Range Beef Cow Symposium is sponsored by the cooperative Extension services and animal science departments of South Dakota State University, Colorado State University, the University of Wyoming and the University of Nebraska.
