UW student exhibition winners announced

University of Wyoming student Luke Gorder of Rapid City recently was awarded the prestigious President's Office purchase award at the University of Wyoming Art Museum's 33rd annual Juried Student Exhibition. Along with Gorder, other UW students were awarded more than $19,000 in prize money for their work

Exhibition winners were selected by juror Linny Frickman, director of the Hatton Gallery at Colorado State University.

The exhibition, on view at the museum until March 1, recognizes and celebrates the creative work of UW students. An art talk by the award-winning students is scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25. A selection from the exhibition will be on view until April 19 in the Centennial Complex Gallery.

Other area students who received awards include:

Spearfish - Mike Hurley won the President's Office purchase award and Student Art League cash award with his work "Across the Earth."

Newcastle, Wyo. - Sarah Hayman won the Office of Student Affairs purchase award, FMC honors award and the Lisa Lewis Dubois student exhibition award with her work "Elephant Ear" and the UW Division of Administration purchase award with her work "Connected."

Gillette, Wyo. - Danielle Alvarado won Jacque Buchanan graphic arts award with her work "Pangea," Heather Duncan won the Office of Academic Affairs purchase award with her work "Lonesome Tree and Solitude," Jeff Hubbell won the College of Health Sciences purchase award with his work "At the Market," Travis Ivey won a Student Art League honorable mention with his work "Blanko," Tina McCarty won the Outreach School purchase award with her work "Sleeping Elephant" and Alanna Reid won the Office of Academic Affairs purchase award with her work "Almost Home."

The UW Art Museum is in the Centennial Complex at 22nd and Willett Drive in Laramie. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays. Admission is free.
