A former Hill City music teacher is expected to plead guilty to disseminating material harmful to minors.
Originally, 31-year-old Sommar Chaffee was charged with a felony for solicitation and sexual exploitation of a minor, but the charges were reduced to a Class 1 misdemeanor in exchange for the plea. If convicted of the felonies, Chaffee could have faced a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a $4,000 fine for each count. Instead, the misdemeanor charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Chaffee was arrested in Minnehaha County in June and has remained free on a $1,500 bond since her arrest.
She will enter her plea on Nov. 23 and will not be required to register as a sex offender, according to deputy Pennington County State's Attorney Lara Roetzel.
