The South Dakota National Guard will cut down and donate a Black Hills spruce tree at Camp Rapid for the 29th annual Christmas at the Capitol holiday display in Pierre.

The 45-foot tree will be cut down at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at Camp Rapid in front of the former headquarters building.

The Camp Rapid tree was planted in 1949 by Richard Walker, who will be in attendance.

The Camp Rapid tree will be the feature tree at the Capitol rotunda. The display at the Capitol will begin with a grand lighting ceremony on Tuesday evening, Nov. 24, and run through Sunday, Dec. 27.

The display will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. CST each day.
