The seventh in a series of community meetings on racism in Rapid City is scheduled for Tuesday.
Sponsored by the Society for the Advancement of Native Interests-Today, the "Campaign to Unite a Community" series aims to raise awareness and find solutions to racism in the area.
It starts at 5:30 p.m. with a potluck dinner at the General Beadle Elementary School, located at North Maple and Van Buren streets. Following the meal, guest speakers will discuss and answer questions on voter districting and charter schools for the state.
Guest speakers for this meeting, "Taking Action for Empowerment," include State Representative Kevin Killer, Pennington County Auditor Julie Pearson, North Rapid Civic Association and Robert Doody, South Dakota director for the American Civil Liberties Union.
SANI-T began in 2002 and has recently formed committees made up of both Native Americans and non-natives working together to find solutions to racial problems.
Also, the non-profit is now collaborating with the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
