RAPID CITY - The fourth season of the award-winning PBS series, "Art in the Twenty-First Century," will premiere from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Dahl Arts Center.

The screening is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Call 394-4101, ext. 200, for reservations.

"Art in the Twenty-First Century," or Art21, is a groundbreaking documentary television series focusing exclusively on contemporary visual art by artists working in the United States today.

The Dahl will host a large- screen viewing of episodes 1 and 2 with an open forum discussion and wine bar.

Episode 1, "Romance," will premiere Sunday, Oct. 28, on PBS, and Episode 2, "Protest," will premiere Sunday, Nov. 4, on PBS.

"Romance" features four distinctly different artists whose works pose questions about the roles of emotion, regret, fantasy and nostalgia in contemporary art.

The second installment examines the ways in which four artists use their work to picture war, express outrage and empathize with the suffering of others.

The series provides behind-the-scenes views of the artists in their studios, homes and communities. The artists speak directly to the audience, in their own words, about how, why and what they create.

"This series not only showcases the contributions of these artists, but also transcends the everyday art experience of a museum or gallery visit," said Susan Sollins, executive producer of the series. "Viewers can discover what goes on inside the minds of these dynamic and thoughtful people, and what they have to say can significantly expand our knowledge and understanding of the world."

The Dahl is participating in the Art21 Access '07 program, presented in partnership with Americans for the Arts during National Arts and Humanities Month.
