Hill City has been named one of the top 20 places to live in the West.
American Cowboy Magazine, a national bimonthly publication focusing on the life in the West, recognized the Central Hills community for its ability to "straddle the line between the Old West and the nuances of today."
"You can check e-mail at one of five bed and breakfasts, then witness a gunfight (re-enacted, of course), ride on horseback far into the backcountry, or go camping," the magazine says in a story by Kevin Carmody highlighting 20 locales throughout the West. It also notes its proximity to popular tourist sites such as Mount Rushmore Memorial, Crazy Horse Memorial, Wind Cave National Park and the 1880 Train.
Other communities featured in the story include Lander, Wyo., Gunnison, Colo., and Fort Robinson, Neb.
