The Pennington County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in solving a string of burglaries and vandalism that occurred in a Rapid Valley neighborhood, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
The vehicles and garages of several Rapid Valley residents were spray painted with black and yellow spray paint, and the cars in those garages were burglarized June 20, the release said.
Numerous items of value were taken out of the cars, which were apparently left unlocked, the release said. The incidents occurred late in the evening of June 20 and into the early morning hours of June 21.
The sheriff's office would like anyone with information on the vandalism and burglaries to call Investigator Jeanie Melton at 394-6115.
Criminal entry to a motor vehicle is a Class 1 misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $2,000 fine. The amount of damage sustained to the homes would make the vandalism a Class 4 felony, according to the release.
A Class 4 felony is punishable by up to 10 years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary and a $20,000 fine.
