The Bureau of Land Management will begin burning slash piles to reduce the amount of fuels left from hazardous fuels treatments near Lead and Sturgis.
Pile burning will take place on agency land throughout the Fort Meade Recreation Area and northwest of the National Cemetery. In the Lead area, pile burning will take place near Rutabaga Gulch, Nevada Gulch, and Englewood.
When finished, crews will have completed about 300 acres of pile burning in these areas.
Burning will take place only when there are at least two inches of snow on the ground and the forecast indicates continued snow coverage for at least three more days after ignition. For information contact Travis Lipp at 720-0747.
