SAVOY - A hiker reported seeing a black bear in Spearfish Canyon in the northern Black Hills.

The man said he heard something in the brush along the trail Wednesday, went to investigate and saw a large black creature that he thinks was a bear.

John Kanta with the Department of Game, Fish and Parks says it's being listed as an unconfirmed sighting because no tracks were found. But he noted that a black bear was recently captured and removed by wildlife officials about 100 miles away at Gillette, Wyo.
