The pending Interstate 90 work at Sturgis that will close Exit 30 for parts of two years will be discussed at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation announced the meeting Thursday, after Sturgis business owners and others complained there had been lack of notification about the work, scheduled to start in March. The meeting will be at the Sturgis Community Center theater.

Those with other questions about the meeting may call Sturgis City Manager David Boone at 347-4422.

The reconstruction project will extend from the Lawrence-Meade county line west of Exit 30 and eventually tie into upgrades previously made at Exit 32.

Work will close eastbound lanes, creating head-to-head traffic detours on westbound lanes by May, when Exit 30's eastbound on-ramp will be closed until the motorcycle rally in August. After the event, work will resume to update and expand the exit, keeping it closed into 2010.

Affected business owners began circulating a petition Sunday, seeking to force a public meeting on the project.
