The Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs will host its annual Skyhounds dog/Frisbee competition on Saturday, June 7.

Events begin with a flea market at 7 a.m. A pet parade will be at 9:30 a.m., followed by the competition.

The dog owner throws the Frisbee for distance and accuracy, and the dog must catch it, according to Sheila Scanson, activities director at the veterans home.

There will be plaques awarded for first, second and third place.

This year there will also be a dog agility competition in which dogs go through an obstacle course.

Grandma's Farm will provide exotic animals for a petting zoo during the event.

The only charge is $5 for a table at the flea market.

Participation in the competition and admission are free. However, donations will be accepted for the veterans home activity fund, Scanson said.

For more information, call Scanson at 605-745-5127, extension 334.
