State Senate candidate Dennis Finch of Rapid City ran into another late-campaign mailing against him this week in District 33, this time from a pro-gun group.

The South Dakota Gun Owners Association mailing alleges that Finch would fail to protect gun ownership and defend the Second Amendment. The group also gave Finch an "F" for failing to answer questions on a survey it sent out.

Finch, the Democratic candidate for the state Senate in District 33, called the gun group's mailing "another smear," that followed a pink postcard mailing last week accusing Finch of supporting a "radical homosexual agenda."

Finch, a member of the National Rifle Association, serves on the board of directors for the Black Hills Sportsmen. He said he didn't fill out the Gun Owners Association survey because the questions were manipulative. But Finch said he strongly supports the Second Amendment and resents the mailing, which comes at a time when it's difficult to answer.

"With so few days left before the election, it makes it pretty hard," he said. "I can't get a mailing out to respond to it. I really believe that there's no place in South Dakota campaigns for these last-minute attacks that try to destroy your reputation and don't give you a fair opportunity to respond."
