The Youth Exchange Support Act would quadruple the tax deduction for families hosting an exchange student, Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., said.

Johnson and Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., introduced the bill, which increases the deduction from $50 a month to $200 a month.

During the 2006-07 academic year, South Dakota families hosted 259 exchange students, according to Johnson's office.
