The board of directors of the Lead YMCA voted July 15 to dissolve its annual membership with the national YMCA organization. Board members also voted to raise rates across the board to set the organization on a better course toward fiscal fitness.
The dropping of the YMCA affiliation will require a name change to Northern Hills Family Recreation Center. However, signs aren't coming down right away, according to director Roger Merriman. He is negotiating a timetable for dissolution, which normally allows for a 60-day process.
Rate increases will begin to take effect Aug. 1. Senior citizen rates are available for people 62 years old and older, instead of 55 years old as was previous policy.
The rec center has an indoor pool, walking track, fitness equipment and programs for members, as well as a day care center.
