The project in Spearfish Canyon to remove excess rock from the canyon wall near Bridal Veil Falls is scheduled to begin today depending on weather.
Because of safety concerns, traffic through the canyon will face some limitations during the anticipated two-week project.
Spearfish Canyon Road will undergo regular closures during drilling operations and removal of loose rock. This work will typically take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Traffic will be permitted to pass through Spearfish Canyon at the beginning of each hour during this time. The roadway will be open to traffic during nighttime hours.
Signs will be placed at both ends of Spearfish Canyon notifying motorists of an upcoming blast closure. In addition, travelers may also go to www.SDDOT.com, call 641-5446 or tune to radio station AM 1670.
