A Box Elder man is being charged with having an unsecured load in connection with a fatal car accident that occurred in a construction zone near Sturgis in May.

Elizabeth Dodson, 64, of Sturgis was killed May 15 when the truck in front of her car lost part of its load of lumber. The driver of that pickup, Jason Doty of Box Elder, is being charged with having an unsecured load, according to Capt. Kevin Karley of the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

Dodson died at the scene. No one else was injured, according to the Highway Patrol.

When Dodson slowed her Honda Civic to avoid the lumber, her car was rear-ended by a Dodge Stratus driven by a Lawrence County juvenile. The impact pushed Dodson's Civic into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a Setra Motor Coach owned by Sturgis Bus Co. The bus had no passengers.

The juvenile, whose name has not been released, has been charged with reckless driving.

The bus driver, 45-year-old Daniel Olson, is not facing any charges.
