The National Association for Interpretation named Mount Rushmore National Memorial's audio tour as the winner in the audio division of the 2007 Interpretive Media Awards, according to a news release. The competition promotes excellence in the delivery of natural, cultural, and historical interpretive services.
Mount Rushmore Audio Tour: A Living Memorial incorporates a handheld wand that features narration, music, interviews, sound effects and historic recordings of sculptor Gutzon Borglum, Lincoln Borglum, Mary Ellis Borglum Vhay, Native Americans and several Mount Rushmore workers. The tour and accompanying brochure and map are translated into Spanish, German and Lakota. More than 12,000 people participated in the $5 audio tour during its inaugural year.
