A rural Faith man died last week in a farm accident when a jack slipped out from under a piece of equipment he was working on.
Melvin L. Hauser, 85, was found under a rotary mower in a shop on his ranch on Friday, Aug. 28, according to Perkins County Sheriff Kelly Serr.
Hauser, who was home alone, was mowing around his outbuildings when some fencing wire and a post apparently got tangled in the mower, Serr said.
Serr said it appeared that Hauser moved the tractor and mower into a building and used a handy-man jack to hold up the mower while he untangled the wire. The jack apparently slipped out from under the mower and it settled on Hauser, Serr said.
A family member found Hauser under the mower.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Faith Community Center.
