STURGIS - The
public is invited to participate in or watch the Sturgis Dog
Classic, a new event for dogs and dog lovers that doubles as a fund
raiser for the Sturgis Animal Shelter.
The event is
Saturday, Sept. 8, and Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Lamphere Ranch
Campground just east of Sturgis. Exhibitors and concessions will be
available both days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children's activities
are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days.
Saturday events
include the Kiddie/Doggie Parade at 10 a.m. and the Mangy Mutt
Contest at 11 a.m. Other events include retriever demonstrations,
arena dog demonstrations with sheep and with cattle, super dog
tricks, the agility match, mutton-busting, a drug dog
demonstration, and an obedience demonstration.
Sunday events
include many of the same events as Saturday's
schedule.
Everyone is welcome
to participate in the Kiddie/Doggie Parade, Mangy Mutt Contest,
super dog tricks and mutton busting. There is no entry fee and you
can register up to half an hour before each event at the Sturgis
Area Chamber of Commerce booth. If you are interested in being an

Overall admission
to the event is $5 for ages 10 and up. Younger children and all
dogs get in free. All dogs must be on a leash and current on shots.
Any dogs with aggressive behavior may be asked to
leave.
