The South Dakota Department of Transportation announced that reconstruction on Exit 52 on Interstate 90 near Black Hawk is scheduled to begin in early March, but major changes to traffic flow aren't expected until early April.

The project includes reconstruction of I-90 from about one mile east of Exit 48 to about one mile east of current Exit 51; relocation of current Exit 51 about one-half mile east; reconstruction of the S.D. Highway 79/Black Hawk Service Road/Sturgis Road between Black Hawk and Kimberly Drive; reconstruction and extension of Foothills Road between Quaal Road and Mill Road; and construction of new connecting roads throughout the project.

A detailed work schedule will be available on the Department of Transportation's Web site when the information becomes available from the contractor.

The contract for the $25.9 million project, which has been in the planning stages since the late 1990s, was awarded to Foothills Contracting of Webster earlier this month.
