A proposed $200 million plan is now the official blueprint to guide projects and management of Rapid City public school facilities for the next 10 years.

No one from the public or on the Rapid City school board spoke for or against the recommendations at Thursday's board meeting. The board approved the MGT Facilities Study Plan, provided by a school district consulting firm, in accepting consent agenda items.

The board reviewed the plan, which was a year in the making, at a study session last month. Although members did not vote on the recommendations at that time, the majority of members indicated they supported the proposals.

The plan calls for a wide range of projects, including building a third public high school, a $26 million renovation and expansion of Central High School, closing Dakota Middle School and a combination of building and closing elementary schools that would see today's overall number reduced from 15 to 14 elementary school buildings.

With the school board advancing the plan, school administrators said they will now work this year on planning for the changes to Central High School and closing Dakota Middle School.
