If midnight is the witching hour, the latest traffic check found several suspects under the spell of alcohol and drugs while driving.
Eight people were arrested for driving under the influence and one was cited for possession of marijuana. Other traffic violations included driving under revocation and driving with suspended licenses.
In all, 379 vehicles were checked between midnight and 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1700 block of E. Highway 44. Media outlets had advised motorists in advance that there would be a checkpoint on Halloween night.
