RAPID CITY - The wife of a murder victim in Rapid City says the man who was arrested at the scene started a fight immediately after showing up at a backyard horseshoe party.
Mary Ortiz, whose husband was shot in the head, says Jesus Torres fired the fatal shot after her husband tried to break up the fight.
Paul Ortiz suffered a fatal head wound. The 44-year-old man died at the scene Saturday.
Torres, who is 41, has been charged with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to make an initial appearance in 7th Circuit Magistrate Court at 10 a.m. today.
Mary Ortiz says Torres and his brother came to the backyard party to attack her son, Aaron.
She says her son was stabbed in the arm.
