Student actors from Alma College in Michigan will perform a play about Crazy Horse Memorial and contemporary Lakota people in two programs Thursday, May 14, for students at Pine Ridge.
The production, "Never Forget Your Dreams: The Creation of Crazy Horse Memorial," is produced and directed by communications professor JoAnn R. Gilbert. She bases the story on interviews with sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski's family and Lakota tribal members.
The 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. presentations in the Red Cloud Indian School gym at Pine Ridge are for middle school and high school students.
The Alma College group will present public performances at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Crazy Horse. Admission to the nonprofit memorial will be three cans of food per person for the KOTA Care and Share Food Drive.
"For Dr. Gilbert to shed light on these important stories is humbling, as it pays tribute to the culture of our people - both those continuing the work today, and those who have come before us," Tina Merdanian, director of institutional relations at Red Cloud, said in a news release.
