A fast moving storm system with high winds, cold temperatures and plenty of moisture is expected to make it through the Black Hills region and throughout parts of western South Dakota today.
The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a winter weather advisory for the southwestern quarter of South Dakota, with freezing rain and snow amounts of up to 5 inches in some parts of the higher elevations and northern Black Hills.
NWS officials said to expect rain to begin this afternoon, sending temperatures plummeting and creating slick road conditions for motorists before changing over to snow.
The winter weather advisory will last until 5 a.m. Wednesday
