Three Rapid City teenagers arrested Friday face charges related to a string of residential burglaries.
Over the past week, people throughout town told Rapid City police about returning to find a door or window kicked in at their home and several items stolen, Sgt. Dale McCabe said.
Watchful neighbors on Friday provided information that helped police.
"Today, a couple of kids were seen at a home on the west side of town. Some neighbors became suspicious, and one lady confronted them. She took down their license plate number as they were leaving," he said.
By 4 p.m., officers stopped the vehicle in traffic, questioned the three boys inside and discovered several possibly stolen items. The boys, two age 15 and one 16, were taken into custody, and the investigation is continuing.
"It's early, and we're still putting the pieces together from other crimes," McCabe said. "They happened all over the place - west side, south side - I don't know how they went about picking out these houses and finding that no one was home."
He said more arrests and charges are possible.
