SIOUX FALLS - Two internal memos from Highway Patrol captains to troopers contradict what Gov. Mike Rounds has said about $2 million in budget cuts.

An unnamed source sent the documents to KELO-TV.

Rounds said the cuts would be in effect for just one year and troopers would still work overtime.

But according to the memos, reductions have already been made and could last up to three years - and troopers would take comp time instead of overtime.

Secretary of Public Safety Tom Dravland said the memo does not reflect the proposed cuts by the governor that include not buying vehicles, cutting back on driving patrols and less overtime.

Lawmakers are debating a bill to restore the funding.
