For many, the Silver City annual volksmarch and pie and ice cream social epitomizes old-fashioned summer fun in the Black Hills.

The event, on Sunday, July 13, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the community hall in the old schoolhouse, benefits the volunteer fire department. Silver City is off U.S. Highway 385 near Pactola Reservoir.
