Communities with historic-preservation-related projects have until Jan. 2 to apply for grants from the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission.
Under permission granted by statewide voters, Deadwood has legalized gambling. State rules require that some gambling tax proceeds are set aside to pay for preservation efforts in the town, national historic landmarks, in other Lawrence County communities and throughout the state for projects related to Deadwood's history.
So far, qualified projects in 51 communities have received more than $1.75 million.
For information about the program and an application form, go to www.cityofdeadwood.com
Applications are due by 4 p.m. Jan. 2 at Deadwood Historic Preservation Office, 108 Sherman St., Deadwood, SD 57732.
