An Eagle Butte woman has pleaded guilty to harboring a fugitive for concealing Sydney Garreau, who was arrested after a two-week manhunt last spring.
Tracy Garreau, 42, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to harboring and concealing an escaped federal prisoner for hiding Sydney Garreau, 28, on March 18. Federal court documents did not indicate how the two are related.
The U.S. Marshals Service spent two weeks searching for Sydney Garreau after he walked away from Community Alternatives of the Black Hills near Rapid City on March 13. In addition to the escape charge, he was wanted for questioning in connection with a March 18 assault on a South Dakota Highway Patrol officer during a traffic stop near Mobridge.
The car's driver during the traffic stop, 26-year-old Jeremy DeCoteau, was eventually arrested and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and other crimes. Sydney Garreau was later charged with assault, burglary and retaliation against a federal witness for allegedly beating a man while on the run.
Sydney Garreau was arrested in Rapid City on April 3 and remains in custody.
Tracy Garreau faces a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $250,000 fine when sentenced. In other federal court news:
* Derrick One Star, 20, Rosebud, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lawrence Piersol to 41 months in custody and three years of supervised release for assault with a dangerous weapon. He admitted to assaulting a Mission man in April. One Star was originally indicted on an additional charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
* Tawny Eagle Louse, 22, Oglala, pleaded guilty to larceny, which has a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Eagle Louse admitted to stealing cash, groceries and gasoline from Cubby's Store in Oglala, where she worked, between June 1, 2006, and Sept. 30, 2006. Eagle Louse was one of five women charged with stealing nearly $30,000 worth of cash and goods from the store. She will be sentenced Jan. 23.
* Stephanie Ann Sutherland, 22, Chicago, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, the charges relate to an incident in October near Rapid City when Sutherland and a co-defendant, Michael Keith Henley, were found with crack cocaine during a traffic stop. If convicted, she could face a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison on each count. The maximum penalty on each count is 40 years in prison and a $2 million fine. No trial date was set.
* Tyson LeRoy Eagle Chasing, 21, Eagle Butte, pleaded not guilty to a two-count indictment charging him with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, the charges relate to the alleged assault of a woman with a motor vehicle on July 22, 2006, in Eagle Butte. The maximum penalty upon conviction for each count is 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Eagle Chasing was released to a half-way house pending trial.
* Eunice Hollow Horn, 35, Eagle Butte, pleaded guilty to simple possession of a controlled substance, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine. According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Hollow Horn admitted to illegally possessing hydrocodone on July 20. She was released on bond pending sentencing.
