KILI-FM this week will mark its 25th anniversary in serving the Pine Ridge Reservation by starting its own power source - a giant $120,000 wind turbine.
The turbine is expected to save the Porcupine radio station $12,000 in yearly electric bills. KILI began building the turbine in June after tracking wind data at the station for six years.
The dedication program at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 31, will feature speakers, a Lakota feast and music. The celebration will be powered by a solar generator.
Honor the Earth, a national Native American organization promoting Native environmental initiatives, assisted on the turbine project.
