At the Women's Summit in Sioux Falls on Sept. 26, Karen Hall of Rapid City, from Democracy in Action, received the Outstanding South Dakota Woman in Civic Participation and Leadership Award.
Hall was nominated by Democracy in Action for her efforts in many areas.
She has spoken throughout the state about the possible harmful environment effects from pipelines crossing South Dakota from Canada. She also has testified to state Legislature committees about uranium mining and oil refineries.
DIA officials said Hall has provided pivotal efforts in organizing, publishing and disseminating 16,000 voters guides across West River. She has helped to write a book about recycling that is used in schools and "is a strong and reasonable voice for progressive thinking in our area," according to the nomination.
