Authorities are asking people throughout the Black Hills to be on the lookout for a couple reportedly circulating counterfeit $50 bills.
According to local law enforcement, at least two people are believed to be involved in passing the counterfeit cash: one a heavy-set, dark-haired and mustached 6-foot to 6-foot-4-inch man believed to be in his mid 30s, and a heavy-set 5-foot-2-inch to 5-foot-4-inch female with brown hair, also believed to be in her 30s.
The two were believed to be driving a white-and-gray four-door sedan. Authorities say the counterfeiters have been active in eastern Wyoming and the Rapid City area.
Up to this time, all of the bills have the same serial number - GG16062470A - and do not alert with a check of a counterfeit detection pen, according to a news release from the Rapid City Police Department.
The department asks that anyone who has information about counterfeit bills or the counterfeiters to call Det. Warren Poches or Sgt. Pete Rangone at 394-4134.
