A fast moving winter storm is expected to blow through the region today, dumping more than a half foot of snow in the upper elevations of the Northern Hills.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for a swath of the Black Hills extending from south of Custer to just south of Spearfish and east to beyond Wall. Snow accumulations are expected to be in the 2 to 8 inch range, with the Northern Hills expected to see the most and the Central and South Central Hills likely to see 4 to 6 inches. Rapid City could receive up to 4 inches or more.
Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate throughout the day as the snow will be accompanied by blowing winds and dropping temperatures.
