The National Weather Service in Rapid City is reporting that some areas in Central Pennington County received more than 3 inches of rain overnight.
Because of those heavy rains, an urban and small stream flood advisory remains in effect until 9:30 a.m. today for central Pennington County.
The National Weather Service climate summary for Thursday reports that the Weather Service Reporting Station at Rapid City Regional Airport received 2.09 inches of rain - a new record for that date.
Weather service officials said Doppler Radar and surface observations indicated that areas in Central Pennington County received more than 3 inches of rain from last night's storm. Officials also said streams and creeks are running high and Rapid Creek near South Valley Drive is near bank full.
The Weather Service also reports that a strong upper level disturbance will bring another round of showers and thunderstorms to the area this afternoon and tonight. The heaviest rains are expected across northeast Wyoming and far western South Dakota.
For that reason, a flood watch remains in effect through late tonight for most of the Black Hills. Cities included in the watch area include Buffalo, Belle Fourche, Lead, Deadwood, Spearfish, Rapid City, Hill City, Mount Rushmore, Custer, Folsom, Wall, Sturgis, Union Center and Hermosa.
